About the Role

You will work directly with the CEO and COO across all aspects of the company's needs and the business of the business. There is no limit to your responsibilities or to the outlets for your curiosity. The role is a combination of Chief of Staff, business development, entrepreneur, and analyst. This role is for you if you're interested in broad exposure to many business functions and people at an extremely fast pace.

At ZBiotics, we make genetically engineered probiotics that improve daily life. In 2019, we launched the world's first genetically engineered probiotic: a 15mL probiotic drink designed to break down an alcohol byproduct that leads to rough mornings after drinking. Since then, ZBiotics' business has continued to grow rapidly year over year. We are preparing to launch our second product, a genetically engineered probiotic with a new function related to microbiome health.
ZBiotics is headquartered in San Francisco, CA, profitable, and backed by venture investors including Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures, and Social Capital, among others.
Your Responsibilities
Knowledge conduit - ensure information moves fluidly across the organization

• Prepare briefings for all meetings
• Transfer knowledge from meetings to appropriate team members
• Help build systems to info-share and to institutionalize knowledge gained

Voice of the Founders - help streamline communications to/from the CEO & COO

• Draft and send all preparation and follow-up notes for meetings /relationships
• Refine and communicate founder priorities or company positioning to others in the company and in the market

Business Development

• Execute ad hoc projects as directed by the Founders
• Manage, evaluate, and respond to inbound BD opportunities
• Proactively ideate and prospect opportunities to move the company forward
• Help structure deals and diligence potential partnership and investment opportunities

Operations

• Understand all departments and their respective people, goals, and projects
• Jump in and fill to move key priorities forward
• Streamline processes and identify opportunities for improvement
• Identify key team expertise needs and help augment

Ownership - have fun and build something!

• Recognize opportunities and execute them with direct approval from the CEO & COO
• Create blogs, thought pieces, or other content on topics about which you are passionate
• Work with ZBiotics team members on projects they are passionate about
• Learn about an area or business you know nothing about
• Build systems to implement any responsibility above

About You

• Minimum of 3 years in management consulting, banking, or law at a top tier firm, or has served in a Chief of Staff or project management capacity previously
• Thrives on multitasking & lack of routine
• Understands the start-up community and the technology industry
• Interested in consumer products, branding, and marketing
• Proficient in or ready to learn tech tools that are core to digitally native brands (e.g., Figma, Shopify, Zapier, Klaviyo), and remote-first startups (e.g., Notion, Google Business Suite, Asana)
• Willing to make recommendations and decisions with incomplete information
• Excels at receiving an open-ended project or challenge, putting structure to it, and getting it done effectively with limited guidance
• Open-minded, adaptable, and has a passion for finding ways to accomplish the goal
• Not intimidated by contracts or negotiations
• Effective, precise, and concise communicator
• Kind and empathetic person
